Haridwar Singh, born on 31 March 1944, in the holy city of Varansi,Uttar Pradesh. Dr.H.Singh has served as the director of the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (H.E.M.R.L),Defence Research and Development Organisation,D.R.D.O Pune. He obtained his Ph.D in Solid Rocket Propellant Combustion from Pune University and Post-doctoral Research from Max-Planck Institute, Göttingen, Germany, during 1985-86. Singh was awarded D.Sc. Degree by B.H.U, Varanasi for his unparallelled contributions in the field of rocket propellants, high explosives, armament and management of strategic technologies. He has supervised 36 Ph.D. And masters thesis. He has more than 175 research papers, 18 patents and three award winning books to his credit. Singh has initiated and monitored many challenging and time-bound mission-oriented research programms in the area of high energy materials especially propellants and explosives for rockets and missiles and advanced pyrotechnics.A spectrum of scientific achievements under his leadership included development and transfer of advanced technologies of high energy propellants for various applications including state-of-the-art propellant technology of a novel class of low vulnerability ammunition (LOVA) for tank gun. Development of explosive reactive armour, combustible cartridge case technology, high explosive compositions for different types of warheads, advanced non-smoky RD X-based propellants for booster and sustainer applications, are a few of other notable contributions.HEMRL has gained the expertise of life extension of propulsion system of missiles, under his leadership and guidance and it has become an asset for all the three Services and has made the country self-sufficient in this area. He has been a visiting scientist at the Max-Planck Institute, Germany; High Pressure Combustion Lab, Pennsylvania State University; University of Arizona; Army Research Lab, Maryland; Science Applications Center, Santa Clara and Sandia National Lab, Livermore, US, University of Haifa, Israel etc.He is the Chairman of High Energy Material Society of India, Hon. member of the Russian Academy of Astronautics, senate member of Pune University, fellow of the Deccan Education Society, member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and member of the Defence Science Journal Editorial Executive Board. He Hon fellow of Australian Institute of High energy material society. Dr Singh was visiting Professor at Central University. Hyderabad, D.I.A.T. Pune and famous I.I.T. Haifa, Israel ( Technion). He was also Visiting Scientist at Nanjing University of science and technology. At present he is on the board of Directors of several private sector company and a consultant in the area of Industrial chemistry, H E Ms. and management. Haridwar Singh has worked very closely with the 11th President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. He has worked with several Indian Prime Minister like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, P. V. Narasimha Rao and Indira Gandhi. ==Awards== Scientist of the Year Award in 1983 for his significant contributions in the field of rocket propellants and allied technologies. Singh is the recipient of the Scientist of the Year Award in 1993, DRDO Cash Award 1984, Astronautical Society of India Award 1994 and the Agni Award for Excellence in Self-Reliance 1999. Great Indian achiever award, Rising personality of India award and prestigious Technology leadership award. Dr Singh has 18 patents and 175 research publications and 17 technical reports to. his credit. He has several award-winning books. Dr Singh major contributions include search for new powerful energetic materials and development of advanced indigenous technologies for all varieties of solid rocket propellants and powerful and thermally stable high explosives. He formulated methodology for life extension of propulsion systems of advanced missiles. This resulted in huge financial savings. His other noteworthy contributions include development of energetic low vulnerability gun propellants, Explosive reactive armour.
